Many other vaccines contain aluminum, too, such as tetanus toxoid.
Aluminum is called an "adjuvant," a substance that increases the immune response to vaccination.
Aluminum works in two ways: attracting white blood cells and acting as a storage depot.
Attracting white blood cells increases antibody levels.
Aluminum helps form a depot at the injection site, which slows release of PA into the body. This increases antibody levels too.
